VISA PROCEDURE
The following are procedures for visa. If you need more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
To enter Japan
Application for Certificate of Eligibility (except for “Temporary Visitor”and “Permanent Resident”)
Certificate of Eligibility (“COE”) is a document issued by the Ministry of Justice. An applicant who wishes to enter Japan under a long-term visa including work visa is required to obtain this COE. In order to file application for COE, the applicant will need a visa sponsor in Japan. Copy of passport, Application Form, and other documents are required for COE application.
Once the COE is obtained, we will send it to you for your visa application at the Japanese Consulate in your country.
To change a status of residence
Application for Change of Status of Residence
When you wish to change your visa status, you will need to file application for Change of Status of Residence at the Tokyo Immigration. For example, if you get married to a Japanese national, you may want to change your visa to “Spouse of Japanese National”.
Passport, Resident Card, application form and other documents are required depending on each visa.
To extend a period of stay
Application for Extension of Period of Stay
You will be able to file application for Visa Extension at the Immigration Bureau from 3 months before your visa expiry date.
Passport, Resident Card, application form, and other documents are required according to you you visa.
To live in Japan permanently
Application for Permanent Residence
If you wish to obtain Permanent Resident Visa, you will be able to apply after living for a certain period in Japan. In general, you will be able to apply after 10 years in Japan, provided that you meet all the requirements. However, there are exceptions for Spouse of Japanese National, Highly Skilled Professionals, and Long-term Resident.
Passport, Resident Card, application form, Tax certificates, Guarantee Letter and other documents are required depending on your situation.
To engage in activities other than the designated activities
Permission to Engage in Other Activities
In general, its is not allowed to engage in activities other than the designated activities under your visa. For example, if you are studying under “Student” visa, you may not work in Japan without permission from the Immigration. However, you will be able to work part-time for up to 28 hours a week with the Permission to Engage in Other Activities.
In order to apply for this permission, Passport, Resident Card, and application form are required.
